My favorite WordPress plugins

SillyGrrl.com // My favorite WordPress plugins

Kelsae commented a few weeks ago asking for a list of my recent favorite plugins. Plugins make it super simple to add dynamic elements to your website & make things automated and easier than hard-coding. Here are the best WordPress plugins I’ve recently stumbled upon…

Flexible Posts Widget: If you scroll all the way to the bottom, you’ll see this plug-in working in my footer. I had to do a bit of styling to make it look pretty, but it was very easy to use. You can set it up to pull in random posts from specific categories or tags.

Multi-Column Taxonomy List: Turns your one column category or tag list into multiple columns. Will clean up your sidebar tremendously if you have more than five categories.

WordPress Popular Posts: Pulls in popular posts based on hits or comments and a specific date range (today, 7 days, 30 days, all time). Options for character limits & thumbnail size.

Regenerate Thumbnails: Did you know you can change the size of your thumbmails? Easy peasy – change the thumbnail size in your settings and then regenerate!

Resize Image After Upload: For all of you who refuse to stop uploading ginormous full-size images ;) This plugin will resize them and discard the original.

Signature Watermark: For all you pinners – this plugin automatically adds a watermark to all your images. Hello time saver!

Editorial Calendar: And of course my favorite, favorite, favorite plug-in EVER. If you are not using this then stop whatever you are doing and install it immediately. This is the only way I’m able to update this site six days a week. I add quick post ideas and then drag & drop them to organize my week.

Here’s the previous post I did about my favorite plugins >>>

WordPress users – what plugins are you loving lately?

Also – Thank you to everyone who has already filled out my survey. I’ve scanned through the responses and they’ve already been immensely helpful in painting a very clear picture of what direction this site & everything surrounding it should go. I’m going to leave it online through Friday, so if you haven’t had a chance to give your input, please do!

Thanks for this! I downloaded the resize after upload and the editorial calendar, both of which will be extremely helpful! Also, just wanted to say thanks to your feedback regarding my blog on your fix-it friday post. I made the changes you suggested and it looks so much better!

I second that on Editorial Calendar! I included that in my latest list of favorite plugins, too. I’ll have to try Resize Image After Upload, so I can save more time instead of doing it manually (more time for anything is better!) Flexible posts looks good, too. Headspace 2 and Easy Database Backup are two that I recommend to everybody.

I definitely need to download that database backup one. For a web designer & long-time blogger I’m horrible at remembering to back-up!

You know… I think this is the first time I’ve run across a WordPress plugins post that wasn’t full of plugins that I didn’t already know about. I’m definitely going to be checking some of these out.

I use Redirection and Widget Logic regularly. Widget Logic lets you show certain widgets on specific pages and posts. Redirection is helpful for fixing broken links on a site.
