How to kick-start your day from

Yesterday I did not want to get up. My bed was warm, my house was cold, my dog was snuggly, and it was raining and gross outside. I actually thought to myself, “Why can’t we just take a pass on a whole day?” Not just stay in and do nothing, but actually fast forward and skip the damn thing.

Since I knew I’d have to get up at some point I started writing my morning pages. Usually it’s a scribbly, rambling brain dump, but yesterday it turned into something different. Something awesome.

By the time I had gotten to the end of my three pages I had unintentionally penned a cheerleader-y love letter to myself. I wrote about all my good qualities and how I’m going to kick ass at everything I’m working on and surprise, surprise, as I made my way downstairs for breakfast I started my day in a damn good mood. I was not just ready to conquer my to-do list, I was excited.

Have you ever written to yourself? If you haven’t I challenge you to do so tomorrow morning and start your day off on a positive note. If you feel weird writing nice things to yourself then pretend you are your best friend or your mom, heck, you can pretend to me. I would totally write you a letter reminding you how much you’re kicking ass and how you’ve got all the skills to go after what you want.

Weird, yes. Cheesy, yes. Totally helpful, YES!

    I’ve been meaning to do this lately, actually. Just take some time and write down all my good qualities, and all the things I’m grateful for as well. Lately I’ve been feeling very self-judging, and it’s good idea to do an exercise like this! Hearing that it inspired you to have a positive start to your day inspires me to try this tomorrow.

    I’m guilty of doing this ever since i learned how much it worked. Also, sometimes when I’m sad about something or angry i put “Mambo Number 5″ and start dancing out of no where. Just the fact that i’m being silly is enough to take away the negativity.

    I definitely recomend doing that too!

    This is a great idea! At the start of this year one of my to-do’s was to start a paper journal again. I used to do this but then I became more obsessed with blogging and forgot about the whole pen-and-paper thing. :P It’s halfway through the year and my journal has seen zilch. Maybe I should start Dear Me letters to get me going. :P

    Incidentally, I just blogged about receiving an email I wrote to myself from last year!

    I have written to myself a couple of times, but it wasn’t serious at all. I think I’ll try it out the next time I’m feeling lazy and want to stay in bed all day. (Which will probably be able, to be honest …)
