As you may have realized from my random Friday night blog post, I’m still trying to figure out exactly what I’m doing with these link + life update posts. Most blogs about blogging and blogs about online business post content with lots of facts and strategies and case studies (I have a bajillion of those too) but there’s not a lot about the actual day-to-day work. Not a lot of behind the scenes. And that’s probably because it’s boring as hell.
But we’re going to give it a shot anyway because I’m always up for an experiment and I personally like reading stuff like that and seeing what people are really up to behind those perfect Instagram pics.
So, the past couple of weeks have been full of re-writing email sequences, updating graphics, doing my taxes, coding homepage updates, and sending out blog reviews (I can do one for you too). And that stuff is about as un-Instagrammable as it gets. There has also been brunch and books and beach days, but mostly just me, sitting on my couch, typing away.
I finally took the time to set up visual automations in ConvertKit (where forms, tags, and sequences are displayed like a flow chart) and it’s making it SO much easier to see how things are working. This led me to scrap six different email sequences in favor of one single sequence for new subscribers.
As I untangled the spiderweb of freebies and sequences, I was reminded how important a big picture plan is. Instead of creating and adding one content upgrade, one sequence, or one product at a time (which I did a lot of in 2015 + 2016), it’s converted a lot better when I create things in sets or sequences (step 1, 2, 3) and plan all of it at once.
I’ve also spent a ton of time this week updating my homepage design. Per usual, designing on the fly, live on my site because when I get it in my mind that there needs to be a design change, every inch of the old version begins to look hideous. #designerproblems So if you landed on my homepage this week and it looked all screwy, you were seeing my process in action!
Here’s what else is new . . .
I was over on the Freelance to Founder podcast recently talking about leaving my corporate job, starting my business, and being a seriously bossy kid. I shared my super slow + intentional morning routine over on Betty Means Business. And there’s a sneak peek + Kickstarter for ConvertKit’s rad docu-series that I was interviewed for!
My Work With Me page is BACK! As I told my email list a few days ago – I’ve been itching to be a little more creative but I’m not really one to pick up a project for fun. So I’m offering my Power Half Hour and website reviews so I can get creative with you on YOUR stuff instead!

Also, in an effort to get out of my boring business box, I’ve been blasting through novels lately and finished The Lowland, The Book of Unknown Americans (SO GOOD), with The Imortal Life of Henrietta Lacks up next.
What have YOU been up to this week? Is this behind the scenes stuff interesting – anything else you want to know?
