This post could alternately be titled . . . how I added over 5,000 people to my email list WITHOUT doing a damn webinar!
Because I know, for so many people, webinars are on the top of their I know I should but I reaaaally don’t wanna list.
So today we’re not going to talk about webinars; we’re going to talk about my other favorite way to grow my list and get my audience to take action . . . CHALLENGES!
With this month’s masterclass being all about growing your email list with a challenge, I thought I’d share a little bit about my own experience and why connecting a challenge to your email list is so important.
When I started putting together this masterclass, I took a spin through Pinterest looking for examples of challenges for different niches. I found challenges on photography, yoga, gratitude, healthy eating, minimalism, reading, money, drawing. There was pretty much a challenge for every niche.
And one thing SO MANY of them had in common – they didn’t connect to an email list. Which means they have no way to connect with participants, to send them encouragement, or to even know how many people were taking the challenge and if it was actually working!
Sending challenge prompts via email is the best way to make sure your readers actually TAKE ACTION
If all you do is add that challenge graphic into a blog post, most of your readers are gonna think, This is RAD! and then not do a damn thing.
Hosting a challenge and adding participants to your email list helps to get your audience involved, share your own experience and expertise, and keep them connected to you even after the challenge is done. Plus, once people go through the challenge and see results, they’re more likely to hire you, make a purchase, or think of you next time they or someone they know needs a recommendation.
Now, let’s talk about stats!
At the beginning of this post I shared that it is totally possible to grow your list by A TON without hosting one of those dreaded webinars.
Before I get into the numbers, I want to note that not all of the participants are brand new subscribers. Many of them are but some people who were already on my list also joined the challenge and are included in the numbers below. Next week I’m going to share a post about why having people who are already on your list join your challenge is not just OK but a huge bonus, so stay tuned for that!
Challenge #1 | Content Planning: December 2016 >> 963 participants
Challenge #2 | Social Success: January 2017 >> 817 participants
Challenge #3 | Blog Branding: June 2017 >> 566 participants
Challenge #4 | Grow Your ‘Gram: October 2017 >> 1358 participants
Challenge #5 | Content Planning: January 2018 >> 1345 participants
P.S. If you were bummed you missed out on the live events or you want to see what the content looks like, The Content Planning Challenge is now available as a mini course!
To save you from having to whip out a calculator, that’s a total of OVER 5 THOUSAND challenge participants!
To give you some perspective, around that same time I ran three webinars that each generated about 350 sign-ups. The time to plan and create the content was about the same but the results turned out VERY different.
When I run a challenge, my subscriber stats end up looking like this . . .
What you’re seeing is general daily subscribers on the left with the addition of a challenge on the right. These are stats BEFORE the challenge has even started because I generally run pre-registration 7 to 10 days before the event, which means my list was growing like bananas for about 12 days straight!
So, how does one put together a challenge that people will not only sign up for but actually show up and take action every day??
Glad you asked! I’ve got a 60-minute on-demand masterclass that will walk you through the process of setting up and running a challenge and it’s available to watch right NOW through June 15th!
You’ll learn . . .
✓ How to choose a challenge topic + plan your event
✓ How to set up your registration page to get the most sign-ups
✓ 3 options for sending daily challenge prompts to your audience
✓ How to keep people excited and involved throughout the challenge
✓ What to do after the challenge ends
I also share the things I did differently on those last two challenges that made them WAAAAAY more popular than the first three.
You in for this??
