This week I thought I’d give you an update on what I’ve been focused on, what I’m doing in my own business, some personal updates.
I like hearing the behind the scenes stuff from other business owners (not just the cute stuff they share on Instagram) and getting a peek into what they’re working on, so I thought you might be into that too!

Here’s what I’ve been up to lately…
Giving epic support to my students
Since we’re in the beginning weeks of Dare to Grow I’m spending the bulk of my week on coaching calls, providing feedback on what students are creating (editing sales pages right now), and answering questions in Slack.
I’m realizing with every session – I’m in the 6th one right now – I really love spending my time helping my students work through the process and learn marketing skills. It’s right in my zone of genius and it’s actually fun for me to work on branding, marketing, sales, copywriting in other niches.
Loving coaching calls is something I really never thought I’d say. Honestly, when I decided to turn Dare to Grow into a high-touch coaching program that was my biggest reservation. I’m introverted and I’m very happy to sit at my computer alone and write all day. I was nervous to add weekly coaching into a program because I wasn’t sure if I’d like it and I was afraid to commit. Turns out I really, really enjoy it. I’m amazed at how much it fires me up to do better in my business, to serve more, show up more, adjust my programs to be more accessible, easier to implement, and generate better results.
So business lesson right there, you can always add something, test it for the first round of students, and then if you aren’t into it, try something different. You can sit on an idea for as long as you want but sometimes the pros and cons are equal and you won’t really know if it will work until you give it a shot. As long as people get what they’ve paid for and what you’ve promised, you can always adjust for the next group of students.
So now I’m looking at the rest of my business and my courses and asking myself – how I can spend more time on coaching calls, interacting with people and providing feedback? I haven’t quite formulated the plan yet, but I am going to add monthly coaching calls into some courses. I have to figure out the system for how that will work, but you heard it here first, more support is coming soon!
I’m also working on preparing to record updated lessons…
for The Productive Solopreneur, Dare to Grow, and Dare to Email (which is going to be completely new). I’m excited because my goal is to make education more accessible, and easier to understand and implement. So you don’t just have a pile of recommendations to add to your already full task list. Whatever that next step in your business, I want you to get it set up and running smoothly as quickly as possible so you’re not staring at that task for months feeling guilty because you don’t have an email list, or a cute website, or a product yet.
Updates coming in Oct, Nov, Dec!
We’ve just applied for a new apartment (!!)
We’ve been in this one bedroom for three years (I lived here by myself for two years before that), so it’s time for an upgrade. The dogs need more space to run around and with COVID and not being able to go out as much we’re a little desperate for a balcony. I think I keep buying plants to get as much nature in our current apartment as possible!
Two bedrooms will also give us space for an office which I’m really excited about. Before I moved to San Diego I had a house in Michigan with an office but I never used it. I think because I’d just left my corporate job I was anti-office, anti-desk, and anti-anything that resembled that job. I’ve been working from my couch the entire time, but it’s been over 8 years, so I’m feeling like it’s time for an office and a desk again.
Other than that we’re still mostly quarantined over here.
There isn’t a lot open in San Diego and even restaurants that are open with dining outside – we’re just not taking the chance to go there. So we’ve been supporting local businesses by eating a lot of takeout.
And honestly, with everything happening in the world right now, I’m a little worn out. I miss my parents, they’re in Michigan and I haven’t been able to see them since October. My dad is high risk after having a heart attack + quadruple bypass so I really have no idea when I’ll be able to see them again. And then Craig works as a chemist for a company that produces among other things, COVID tests – so he’s been working 12-14 hour days pretty much non-stop since March.
Watching people go about life like everything is fine, posting photos out and about without a mask is frustrating as hell. I could do a whole episode about how I’m finding out that some people I thought were chill are actually garbage humans and how people with a large audiences should be more responsible with what they post. But I’m sure most of you listening/reading are being diligent and wearing your masks and you don’t need to hear another rant.
It’s a weird dynamic right now, as it has been with 2020 in general. Being really excited when I’m working with my students and feeling drained by the stress of everything happening.
Which is why I’ve been making meditation a priority…
because I can really feel it in my body when I’m not taking that time for myself. I don’t get fancy with meditation. I just park it on the couch, put on some chill instrumental music, and stay still for 20-30 minutes. Even if I can only fit in 5 minutes it makes a difference.
So I’ve been sticking to that, stepping 100 percent away from work on nights and weekends, and watching a lot of old Real Housewives just to see what it looks like to be crazy rich and happy and not in the year 2020. 🤣🤣🤣
My personal life highlight this week was buying a robot vacuum. Because with two dogs now I do not want to vacuum every day. So I can sit back, watch my Housewives, snuggle the pups, as my little drunk robot runs into everything as it cleans up all the dog hair for me. I’m pretty excited to get out the regular vacuum this weekend and really see how well the robot is working. (#oldaf)
This pandemic obviously needs to hurry up and end so my personal life update can be more exciting than robot vacuums!
So that’s what’s going on over here XO Sarah headquarters. Just trying to keep my balance and moving forward one day at a time.
