My job is to help you kick ass online.
Whether you’re launching your first blog, starting an email list, growing your social media following, boosting your traffic, or turning your blog into a business, I’m here to help you MAKE. IT. HAPPEN.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved planning and creating. In elementary school I was parked on the front porch selling cookies and crafts, middle school was spent hosting fake radio shows (recorded on cassette, of course!), and in high school I began blogging, teaching myself web design, and running sites for local bands.
I studied journalism in college and then worked a corporate job as a web designer for a TV station, which, among other things, earned me an Emmy (yeah, like an actual gold statue with my name on it), a spot in Crain’s Detroit’s 30 Under 30, and a penchant for clickable headlines.
But after seven years in a cubicle I ran into a problem…I didn’t like my job anymore. Every morning (as I hit snooze 15 times) I’d fantasize about staying home, working from my couch on projects I actually enjoyed. I didn’t want to wake up to an alarm, spend my days in a busy newsroom, or design within corporate specs.
I wanted FREEDOM and FLEXIBILITY, and each day that I went to work, I felt more and more determined to strike out on my own.
I wasn’t afraid of figuring out how to run a business and I wasn’t afraid I would completely fail; I was afraid I would wake up 10 years later still spending 40 hours/week at a job that didn’t make me feel excited to get to work.
So I used my blog to launch a freelance web design business, at the same time I was teaching, training in, and performing aerial arts. Making my escape to self-employment wasn’t fast and it wasn’t easy (I like to say I worked 25/8 instead of 24/7), but it was COMPLETELY worth it.
In the spring of 2012 I had enough clients and enough aerial gigs that I was able to quit my job, take my freelance biz full-time, and literally run away with the circus.
Since then I’ve designed and developed websites for over 100 clients, earned thousands and thousands of dollars sharing affiliate links for products and apps I love, written three ebooks, published a workbook on Amazon, and launched eight different online courses with thousands of students. And yeah, I’m still doing that circus stuff too!
My business may have evolved, but my blog has been the backbone of everything.
My blog has allowed me to remain self-employed for over four years, smoothly transition from providing services to selling products, pick up my life and move from Detroit to San Diego, knock out my fear of public speaking, get paid to travel all over the country, and meet lots of blogging friends and students in person.
So, what could your blog do for you??
I don’t have magic beans or a secret sauce, but I do have over 20 years of blogging and design experience and a passion for sharing what I’ve learned.
I believe blogging can be a game-changer for EVERYONE, which is why I’ve created blog posts, books, and courses to help you figure out what you want to build with a strategy you’ll actually have TIME for, and I’ve got communities to help you stay motivated and inspired on those days that even an IV drip of coffee couldn’t get you going.
When I say no-bullshit, I mean it. There’s no fluff or theories here. Just actionable advice (that I’ve used to grow my own blog and business) that you can put to use TODAY.
