I shared this Twitter challenge with the Badass Babes email list subscribers and at the request of Tiff I’m sharing it with all of you too :)
Below you’ll find 7 tips to help you grow your Twitter audience. They’re short, simple, and easy to add into your daily life immediately. If you complete all seven steps I have 100% confidence you’ll see new followers pop up all week long!
#1 Set up a Buffer account
It’s no secret I have a major crush on Buffer. It’s FREE for up to 10 scheduled tweets at a time and will make posting content to Twitter effortless. Plus you can use it for Facebook, Google+, and LinkedIn as well!
Visit BufferApp.com and follow the steps to create an account.
I made things even easier for myself by creating a schedule with seven posting times throughout the day. Then I use the Chrome Buffer extension to quickly add posts (my own and from other websites) into my que twice a week.
#2 Tweet each of your blog posts 3 times per day
Let me preface this by saying – it will not making you an annoying tweeter. It will make it more likely that more of your followers will see your tweets, which is what they followed you for, right??
Use that Buffer account and schedule tweets the night before…
- Once in the morning when people are waking up and checking their email
- Once just after lunch time when they are procrastinating getting back to work
- Once in the evening when people will be home from work – I know you have your phone in your hand while watching TV (because I do too >_<)
On days you’re not publishing new content, tweet posts from your archive.
#3 Add an image to at least one tweet per day
People are starting to catch on that adding images to tweets is a good idea, but I’m guessing your feed is still not displaying that many photos. Twitter images, whether it’s just a photo or includes the title of your post, will help you stand out from the crowd and generate more clicks.
Images should be a minimum 440 x 220px (2:1 ratio) or have the most important portion of the photo in the middle.
#4 Tweet posts from other bloggers twice a day (and make sure to tag the author!)
Choose content that is relevant to your niche and your followers will find entertaining, inspiring, or educational. I use Chrome’s Buffer extension for this as well. It allows me to add tweets to my que from Twitter or while I’m browsing blogs.
The easier this stuff is, the more likely you’ll do it on a regular basis, right??
#5 Join a Twitter chat and make new friends
I guarantee no matter your niche, there is a Twitter chat available. And if somehow there isn’t – it might be up to you to start one! I use http://tweetchat.com when I participate in and when I host chats because it’s a little easier to follow and respond than right in Twitter.
And I’m guessing you might just be a creative badass babe, so here are a few of my favorite Twitter chats . . .
#CreativesChat – Mondays at 4pm PST
#FireworkPeople – Tuesdays at 9pm ET
#CreateLounge – Wednesdays at 7pm CST
#AltChat – Wednesdays at 9am ET
#BlissChat – Thursdays at 9pm ET
#OWSChat – monthly chats
And on occasion we do a #BadassBlogChat too!
#6 Follow and start a conversation with five new people
Surf through your friend’s followers or maybe check back on the people in that awesome Twitter chat you joined. Choose tweeters that do not already follow you and check out their feed or hop over to their blog to find something to chat about.
Here are some ways to break the ice:
- Your last post was ____________
- I’m addicted to _________ too
- I loved _________ you might like _________ as well
- Hi I’m __________ I think we should be friends
Be brave – you can do it!
#7 Remind people on your blog, Facebook, email, etc that you’re tweeting about awesome stuff and would love to connect with them on Twitter.
Just because they read your posts and open your emails doesn’t mean they’ve taken the extra step to find you on Twitter. Every time I send a note about my Twitter or Instagram accounts I ALWAYS get new people following.
Psst! Do YOU follow me on Twitter??
