This week I’ve added a brand new on-demand training to Dare to Grow all about upgrading your opt-in boxes to help them convert better and grow your email list. And in the process I’m recommending something that a lot of people avoid . . . adding a pop-up box to your site.
I already know that recommendation is going to come with push-back because most people think pop-up boxes are annoying.
Which they are . . .
. . . when they pop-up just as you open a blog post and completely block the exact thing you’ve just started to read.
. . . when you click the X 50 times and the damn thing WILL NOT CLOSE.
. . . or when they don’t offer anything of substance. They’re all “JOIN MY NEWSLETTER!!!” and you’re all “I don’t even know who you are!”
But you’re a smartypants and I know you wouldn’t make any of those mistakes, so why are we STILL avoiding pop-ups even though so many people say they work??
Probably because we’re worried about intruding on other people. We’re worried about turning them off. And we’re worried about being that annoying, sales-y person.
Here’s what drives me crazy . . . when I go into a store just to see what they have and the salesperson follows me around, asking questions, and offering help every two minutes.
I’m just browsing dude!
Adding a pop-up probably makes you feel like that, right? Like someone just came by to read a blog post and you’re following them around, blasting them with offers for all your stuff.
But here’s what drives me crazy even more. . . when I go into a store, looking for something specific, cash burning a hole in my pocket, and not a single salesperson says a word to me.
Just let me give you my money!!
Have you ever walked out of a store without buying the thing you wanted because you couldn’t get anyone to help you? Because I totally have.
Which is why your website needs to have a helpful, valuable pop-up that’s only really annoying to the people who aren’t interested anyway.
It’s time to think about your website as an employee that directly addresses those people that showed up ready to connect and join your email list. If they’re not interested they can take half a second to hit the X, but if they are, a pop-up is an automated way to get all of those potential clients + customers on your list!
If you aren’t sure how to design a pop-up or what to write so people actually subscribe to your email list, hop over to Dare to Grow and watch the tutorial.
You’ll learn . . .
